LITLE Freya with mum Lauren
Fund launched for private tests
FUNDRAISERS are pulling out all the stops for a poorly little girl from Royton.
Freya Yates, of Crossley Street, is a year old and suffers with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, making her very underweight for her age.
She needs to undergo a series of internal investigations but there is an eight-month waiting list on the NHS, so her mum, Lauren, is hoping to raise funds for private tests at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, which will cost almost £3,000.
Her family fears there are more serious underlying problems and the child is so ill that Lauren feels she is need of more urgent tests. Lauren (25), said: “It’s heartbreaking to watch her every day because she’s my little girl. She tries to be happy for us but she is quite sick and in a lot of pain.
“It’s urgent that she is seen as soon as possible as she is losing a lot of weight — once we have some results she can be treated on the NHS.”
Now family and friends of Lauren, including Freya’s godmother Rachel and her mum Carol Stopford, have pulled together to raise cash for the tot. They have organised a sponsored karaoke and disco which takes place tomorrow night at North Chadderton Social and Bowling Club, Broadway.
Generous local businesses have donated prizes including a B&B stay, champagne and beauty vouchers.
On the night there will be a silent auction, a sponsored leg wax and it is hoped that celebrities from the TV soap Hollyoaks will be attending.
Tickets for the bash which starts at 7.30pm on Friday, are limited but 50 are still available, priced £2.50 on the door.
If anyone would like to donate prizes or buy raffle tickets they can call Carol on 01706 290307.
