THE remaining part of the iconic Mumps bridge will be demolished this weekend.
Contractors will be knocking down the southern bridge to make way for the new Metrolink line which will run from Manchester to Mumps later this year.
The carriageways under the bridge will be closed from 7pm on Friday until 6am on Monday while work is carried out. Diversions will be signposted.

Westbound traffic approaching the roundabout will be diverted along either St Mary’s Way, Egerton Street and Shaw Road, or alternatively Park Road, Glodwick Road and Cross Street. Eastbound traffic will be able to cross the roundabout as usual.
The other half of the bridge was removed in August to allow builders to make preparations for the ground-level track through the junction.
Work has also started on the extensions of the Metrolink through Oldham town centre, which should be complete by 2014.
