Birthday celebrations ended in violence and terror

A FAILSWORTH MAN’S birthday celebrations turned out to an horrific night for his partner.

Engineer Jamie Condor (35) twice beat her up, got into a fight with his brother, and refused to take a breath-test.

Sean Brady, prosecuting at Manchester Magistrates Court, said mother-of-two Shelley Davies suffered two black eyes, cut lips and severe bruising.

Court chairman, the Rev Andrew Braunston, told Condor: “You were totally out of control and it was a sustained and quite vicious attack.

“You put her in fear of her life and I can only imagine how she must have felt.”

But Condor escaped an immediate jail sentence after Miss Emma Hassall, defending, said the couple were hoping to get back together.

Condor, of Grange Street, admitted charges of assault and failing to provide a specimen and was given a 12-week sentence suspended for two years.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay Miss Davies £250 compensation and £85 prosecution costs.

Mr Brady said the parties had spilt for a short time last summer and the victim began seeing somebody else.

Last month they went out to celebrate Condor’s birthday and ended up at his brother’s home and the men started fighting. Afterwards Condor punched his partner several times before forcing her into his van and threatening to kill her.

At home he struck her repeatedly and in her impact statement she said “It was totally unexpected, we had had a great night.

“I believe he hit me and Terry (his brother) because he thought something was going on between us.”
