Specialist police team arrests Ronnie Wallwork
A FORMER Manchester United footballer from Failsworth has been arrested on suspicion of stealing motor vehicles.

Ronnie Wallwork was questioned by police investigating serious and organised crime across the North-West as he arrived at Manchester Airport on a flight.

The 33-year-old ex-Reds star was quizzed in connection with the handling of stolen vehicles that have allegedly been used in crimes across the region.

The former Failsworth School pupil was bailed until next week, when he could face charges.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “A 33-year-old man from the Manchester area was arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicles. He was bailed until January 18, pending further inquiries.”

The arrest was made by officers from Titan, a collaboration of specialist officers from six forces across the North-West established to tackle serious and organised crime.

Four men have been charged in connection with an attempted robbery in Longsands Lane in Fulwood, Preston, last March.

Mark Cain (48), of Ashfield Rise, Preston, and Craig Bulger (50), of Scotland Hall Road, Newton Heath, have been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and attempted robbery.

Wayne O’Day (24), of Baytree Lane, Middleton, and Stephen Sheil (29), of Amos Avenue, Newton Heath, have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

A 26-year-old man from Hyde was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery and bailed until February.

As well as Mr Wallwork, a 21-year-old from Manchester was arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicles and bailed.
