Each vote vital, says Clegg

EVERY vote counts . . . that’s the message from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg who made his third visit to Oldham in as many weeks.

Mr Clegg addressed voters in Grotton ahead of tomorrow’s by-election in Oldham East and Saddleworth and knocked on doors in Brooklands Drive with Lib-Dem candidate Elwyn Watkins in a bid to rouse support.

Most residents were welcoming but a woman shouted obscenities at the pair from a passing car.

Opinion polls show a clear Labour victory but Mr Clegg believes it could go either way.

He added: “The choice is simple and it is a close contest between Labour and the Liberal Democrats.

“You can either vote for Labour, who were found to have lied and cheated their way through the General Election with five High Court judges deciding that their leaflets were out of order, or you can vote for Elwyn Watkins who is a tough plain-speaking local candidate who would be the most outstanding MP for this area.

“He would roll up his sleeves and help local people just like the Liberal Democrats are rolling up their sleeves and getting to grips with helping the country.”
