Teen pair ordered to leave

A PAIR of well-behaved schoolgirls were booted out of McDonald’s — after another group of youths caused trouble.

Friends Kelsey Hague and Becky Field, both 14 and from Summercroft, Chadderton, were denied burgers from the fast-food outlet on Broadway.

The Oasis Academy pair, who have visited the restaurant many times, claim an assistant refused to serve them because it was after 6pm. The girls said there were conflicting comments between the staff so they sat down at one of the tables as they thought it was a prank — but were then told to leave immediately.

Outside, Kelsey rang her step-mother Judy Hague, who said she was “infuriated” at having to go down to the restaurant to sort out the situation.

Mrs Hague said: “There was no explanantion. They just told me there had been a lot of trouble with teenagers coming into the restaurant and messing about but Kelsey and Becky weren’t even part of that group. The manager who spoke to us said it was a judgment call at the time of service — but I’ve never heard of anyone being refused service in there before.”

McDonald’s staff told Kelsey’s dad, Stephen, and step-mum that there had been a group of around 20 teenagers in the restaurant prior to the girls’ visit and they were unsure whether they were part of the same gang.

Sgt Alun Hopkins, of Chadderton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said high-visibility patrols have been increased following an increase in anti-social behaviour in and around the restaurant.

A spokeswoman for McDonald’s said it was a clear case of mistaken identity and miscommunication.

“A large group of teenagers were asked to leave because they were causing a disturbance.

“We are very sorry that in a case of mistaken identity, two girls who arrived at the restaurant immediately after the group had left, were accused of being part of the same group and not served.”
