Get going with a new igo card

YOUNGSTERS are being tempted with a special offer to sign up for a new public transport travel pass.
The igo becomes compulsory next year but children can apply for it now and get their hands on an introductory offers pack.
Anyone aged 11 to 16 who lives in or attends school in Greater Manchester is eligible for an igo, a new-look photo ID travel pass which entitles the holder to claim the 80p concessionary fare on the region’s buses. The igo will also be valid on Metrolink.
Councillor Keith Whitmore, chairman of Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority’s Policy & Resources Committee, said: “The igo launched in September and, while not currently compulsory, from May 16 next year anyone aged 11 to 16 will have to show their igo to claim the concessionary fare.
“As an introductory offer, all eligible applicants who apply before May will receive a great igo pack, valued at around £60 and offering a range of discounts and offers for local entertainment venues.
“System One Travelcards are also offering young people who apply for an igo before January 31 a money saving voucher, providing £3 off a weekly ticket and £5 off a monthly ticket.
“So, with two great offers available for a limited time only, I would urge anyone who is eligible for a travel pass to beat the rush and apply for their igo now.”
While it has not previously been mandatory to provide ID when claiming the concessionary fare, passengers who wished to have proof of their age and therefore their eligibility could apply to GMPTE for a 16 and under ID card. This has been replaced by the igo.
