Don’t make it a closed call — GP

OLDHAM GP Hugh Sturgess is urging locals to pick up repeat prescriptions before surgeries close for Christmas.
Cold weather and the seasonal rise in common complaints such as coughs, colds and flu can cause problems for the health service over Christmas.
A regional information campaign — “Five Questions to Help You Stay Fit and Well this Winter” — has been launched which includes simple steps to avoid feeling unwell over the festive period.
Dr Sturgess said: “Pharmacists can give advice about the right over-the-counter medicines to take for common complaints such as a cold or upset stomach.”
He also reminded residents to drink sensibly over the festive period.
Dr Sturgess added: “The message is to try to drink sensibly — for example, alternating alcohol with soft drinks.”
