Grot-spot reporting goes hi-tech

Date published: 06 December 2010

Oldham Council’s popular Tidy Oldham website has been relaunched with a bigger and better version that makes it easier to report local grot spots.

Launched in 2007, the Tidy Oldham website allows Oldhamers to report graffiti, fly tipping, dog fouling or even abandoned vehicles.

People can send details of these sort of grot spots by e-mail or text with an image from a mobile phone or camera. Smartphone users can download a free app from the online Apple and Windows stores via www.oldham.gov.uk/tidyoldham

Anyone can access the site from a range of popular websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Google.

Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for citizens and neighbourhoods said: “Since its launch in 2007 the Tidy Oldham website has become an extremely effective way for citizens to report littering and other environmental crimes.”

“It allows people to see exactly when their query has been dealt with as — after we have cleaned up the site — an image is posted clearly showing that the work has been done.

“Using this site has helped the council to cut down on the length of time it takes to process a report.

“Everyone can now help us to keep the borough clean by just snapping and sending their pictures from their phone.”
