ACCESS, a new service for young people with alcohol and drug abuse problems is launched today.

The service, for 18 to 25-year-olds, follows expert research by the Oldham Drug Alcohol Action Team.

Access is run by Addiction Dependency Solutions and is open to young people living in the Oldham area.

It provides a non-judgmental approach with a range of different treatment options including one-to-one support, group work as well as activities such as boxing, rock climbing, football, acupuncture and more.

The service aims to promote a healthier and more productive lifestyle. Currently 84 young people are benefiting from the service, but ADS is keen to reach out to more.

Manager Stephen Samuels said: “Research clearly shows there is a need and we are here to help.

“We provide an open access service where young adults can come along and talk confidentially to an expert about the issues around their misuse of either alcohol, cannabis, cocaine or any other stimulant. “We can help them with one to one support, education, training and other activities.”

The Access service is based at 3 Chaucer Street, Oldham, and is open five days a week between 9.30am and 5pm. The service is funded by Oldham Council and the Drug Alcohol Action Team.
