THE snow may have caused misery on the roads but some people were having a great time. In Werneth Park Richard Bennett and his daughter Neve (3) took full advantage!
OLDHAMERS struggled under a blanket of snow as a repeat of last year’s winter white-out got off to an early start.
Gritters took to the streets to keep traffic moving and schools shut their doors across the borough as the winter’s first snowfall caused havoc.
Oldham Council parks and countryside staff were out in force worked hard to clear pavements in district centres and other public areas.
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for citizens and neighbourhoods, said: “Our parks, waste and street scene staff were used to great effect last year to help deal with snowfall.
“This year we have acted earlier and deployed teams immediately to help with the clean-up operation.
“Our highways department does a fantastic job keeping the borough’s road network open and by using parks staff we can help to ensure our district centres remain accessible to all.”
Bitter moorland winds whipped up blizzards across the Saddleworth hills and parts of the Huddersfield canal in Uppermill iced over.
