THE long arm of the law is cloaked behind moustachioed disguise throughout Royton and Shaw.
For police officers and police community support officers have been growing moustaches for charity throughout the whole of November.
Between them they have raked in more than £500 for The Prostate Cancer Charity . . . and still counting.
The annual international moustache-growing event, named “Movember” raises awareness of mens health issues, and prostate cancer has been chosen for this year’s theme.
PCSO Kieran Jones came up with the idea to support it, and drafted in his colleagues from Royton and Shaw to take part.
“Every single one has come on board,” he said. “We started at the beginning of the month, and everyone looks miles different. We have had a brilliant response from people we meet out on the beat, and from work colleagues and friends. So far we have raised £516 and people are still donating.”
The 23-year-old wanted to do something to raise awareness of prostate cancer and to raise money for research.
“There never seems to be much done for male cancers, so it seemed a good idea to support this,” said Kieran.
Anyone who wants to make a donation can do it online at www.movem ber.co.uk and put “Royton and Shaw police team” in the donate to teams option, or call into Royton police station in Radcliffe Street with a donation.
