Wall repairs close road
Date published: 20 August 2010
A BUSY road is set to close for a month to allow for vital repair work to retaining walls.
Work has been taking place in Grains Road, which connects Delph village to Grains Bar, for the past eight weeks.
The contractor recently began to install temporary support works which are necessary to enable a section of the existing wall to be taken down safely.
Given the plant and equipment needed and the requirement for pedestrian access to continue, Grains Road will close to traffic for about four weeks.
The emergency closure, which starts next week, will enable the installation of the temporary supports. The road will reopen once these are in place.
Diversion signs are being installed and neighbouring residents and businesses are being notified by letter.
The renovation work is part of a joint scheme that was awarded almost £22m in government funding last year with Rochdale and Tameside councils.
The lion’s share — £19.9 million — was awarded to Oldham Council.
