Oldham Athletic in the community:
OLDHAM Athletic are doing their bit to give local youngsters a better future by offering a series of free courses.
The Community Trust will run NVQ Level Two qualifications in sports recreation at Boundary Park for both unemployed young people and those in work.
The scheme has been developed by Luis Michael Training and will be delivered in partnership between Luis Michael and Oldham Athletic Community Trust.
The course will run one day a week for 26 weeks and is open to 16 to 24-year-olds with all students gaining qualifications in child welfare and first aid.
This is an Oldham Athletic Community Trust apprenticeship scheme and in order for students to get the most out of the course they will get involved with various roles and aspects of the club and community programme.
Anthony Barlow, Oldham Athletic Community Trust’s LATICS project co-ordinator, said: “It’s a training scheme that I’m hoping will be a success.
“I am delighted at the prospect of helping develop local young people with both their academic studies and their football talents.
“Although primarily it is a training apprenticeship scheme there will also be elements of sports-related training and coaching involved.
“It is an excellent opportunity for the young people of Oldham to be involved and to obtain a core base of qualifications that can potentially help them in their chosen sports-related careers.”
