Perfect pool is fit for a Prince

A SWIMMING club captain has heaped praise on the professional facilities at the newly-opened Chadderton pool.

Nicky Prince (21), from Instow Close, Chadderton, has been captain of Chadderton Swimming Club for the past year.

The former Junior Boys Captain in 2003 and 2005 began swimming at the old Chadderton Pool when he was three years old, performing in his first gala when he was only four.

When the pool closed in 2006, the club was forced to practise at other pools, including Failsworth, Oldham and Middleton, for three years.

Now club members have a brand new pool to call their own at the Chadderton Wellbeing Centre, in Wellington Street, and Nicky said the members are thrilled.

He said: “The new pool is 25 metres long, whereas the old one was 30 yards.

“The new measurement is the standard length and makes it easier to time races.

“The pool also has six lanes compared to the old four, meaning there is more space during training and it is better for competitions.

“And the salt-based filtration system gives the water a much fresher feel than other pools.”

As well as the pool’s facilities, Nicky said its new name was a fitting tribute to one of Oldham’s most famous swimmers.

He said: “The club is very happy with the new facilities.

“And I’m glad that it has been named the Henry Taylor Pool, after the swimming clubs most successful swimmer who won eight Olympic medals, three of them gold.”
