AN Oldham Police Community Support Officer has been hailed nationally for working tirelessly to help residents.

PCSO Christine Gee was named runner-up in the prestigious 2009 National Justice Awards for her efforts.

The honours recognise teams and individuals who have gone the extra mile to deliver justice.

PCSO Gee came second in the Engaging Local Communities individual award from nearly 900 nominations. Winners and runners-up were presented with their certificates at a glittering ceremony at Banqueting House, London.

PCSO Gee helped the formation and work of the Firwood and District Residents’ Association which promotes and represents the interests of the area and its residents.

Hundreds of previously isolated residents have been united and anti-social behaviour has dropped as a result.

Richard Vince, chairman of the Greater Manchester Criminal Justice Board said: “We are incredibly proud of PCSO Christine Gee. Her story is truly inspiring and a shining example of the dedication that exists among the staff and volunteers that work in the Criminal Justice System in Greater Manchester and in particular Oldham.”

Home Secretary Alan Johnson said: “Staff at the frontline are often the unsung heroes of the Criminal Justice System. Through the Justice Awards we have the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the outstanding work that is bringing justice to the heart of our communities.”
