Michelin success for White Hart

Date published: 27 October 2009

THE White Hart in Lydgate is the only Oldham restaurant to feature in the latest edition of the 2010 Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide.

And the inn also receives special recognition as one of the Michelin inspectors’ favourites for quality food and value for money.

The guide says: “Rurally set, overlooking Saddleworth Moor, the White Hart Inn presents you with several choices.

“Firstly, where to eat: will you dine near the open log fire in the cosy, beamed brasserie or more formally, in the modern, linen-clad restaurant.

“The Library is the choice for more private dining, while the smart Oak Room is also available for functions.

“Once you are settled, more choice comes in the form of the seasonally changing menus.

“Dishes range from soups, sandwiches and smoked sardines through to roast rabbit leg or rib-eyed steak.”

Chef Paul Cookson (33), who has worked for TV chef Antony Worrall-Thompson, said: “We are delighted and honoured to be included in the guide again.

“It’s a credit to my team and our loyal customers. Our menu aims to give great value at the right money and it is very well received.”

This year’s guide includes more than 550 of the best pubs serving food in the UK and Ireland — picked for their setting, charm and character, the excellent service, the overall value for money offered and the exceptional cooking.

The only other pub to feature in Greater Manchester is The Victoria, Altrincham.

l The guide is on sale now at good book shops, priced at £14.99.
