Had a few drinks too many . . . ?

POLICE are calling time on bar staff serving revellers who are already drunk.

They have launched a Think Safe, Drink Safe campaign as part of Alcohol Awareness Week to inform the public about the legalities behind staff serving someone under the influence of alcohol.

It aims to drive down alcohol-related crime and disorder and promote sensible drinking.

It has the support of licensees who are displaying campaign posters in their premises, while staff will wear Think Safe t-shirts.

Adele Lord, manager of nightclub Liquid Envy, said: “The licensees in Oldham have been working hard to make the town centre a safe place to enjoy an evening out. This campaign further supports this commitment and is another example of how we are working closely with the police and the council.”

Sgt John Murdoch, Oldham Division’s violent crime project co-ordinator, said: “Through this campaign we can ensure both bar staff and the public are aware of the laws around being served alcohol.

“There has to be an element of responsibility on both sides and it’s important that we enforce these laws in an attempt to drive down alcohol-related crime in the town centre.

“Our message is simple — go out and enjoy yourself, but think about the amount of alcohol you are drinking to ensure you do not leave yourself vulnerable to being a victim, or even an offender, of alcohol-related crime.”
