A HAMLET is drawing up an action plan to ensure it will not be airbrushed off the map.
More than 40 residents attended a “Love Lydgate” meeting to air their views.
Now, backed by ward councillors and the District Partnership, they plan to pool their ideas to form a blueprint for future developments in the community.
The group was supported by Councillors Barbara Beeley and John McCann, Parish councillor Royce Franklin and Police Community Support Officer, Wayne Turley, who spoke about setting up further Home Watch schemes in the area.
The residents shared concerns and frustrations of trying achieve things as individuals with little success. And they reasoned that by uniting they had more chance of getting things done.
The meeting heard that plans are already under way to plant spring bulbs and flower tubs, sponsored by The White Hart, on chicanes near the inn on Stockport Road.
However, residents recognised needs for support and funding from the council especially withtraffic calming problems and stone walling repairs.
But there had already been changes with two new “Give way to oncoming traffic” signs repositioned just days before the meeting.
In the meantime, discussions will take place with the Greenfield and Grasscroft Residents’ Association to see how the Lydgate group can work under its umbrella.
Mike Rooke, secretary of GGRA, who spoke at the meeting, said he was impressed by the villagers positive nature and support.
He said: “We look forward to discussions with the Love Lydgate initiative.
Councillor John McCann said: “Extra funds have been put towards road safety and other problems are being reviewed.”
Councillor Barbara Beeley, added;” There is obvious energy to do something to improve and enhance Lydgate and the action group has our full backing.”
The date and venue of the next meeting will be announced shortly.
