Crackdown continues on burglars
Date published: 14 October 2009
POLICE are going to town in their crackdown on burglars.
Officers from the Town Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team are visiting Oldham town centre this week to encourage people to shop a burglar.
They will be at Tommyfield Market daily between 8am and 4pm to give residents information on how they can provide police with the vital information they need to bring criminals to justice. Shoppers can also pick up advice on how to keep themselves and their property safe from thieves.
It’s part of GMP’s Operation Storm initiative that’s been set up to reduce burglaries and increase detections.
Sgt Russ Magnall said: “Since the launch of Operation Storm in June we have seen a 38 per cent drop in burglary across the division, that’s 63 fewer victims.
“Comparing September this year with September last year the number of break-ins has almost halved. These are great results for Oldham and we will continue to keep up the pressure on criminals and bring them to justice.
“I also want to thank members of the public for the information they pass on to us. Without their help we wouldn’t be able to make such an impact.”
Residents can provide information to police directly on 0161 872 5050 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111.
