HAMMER-WIELDING thugs tried to rob a travel agents in Failsworth yesterday.

The drama unfolded at the Co-op travel agents in Failsworth Precinct at 9am.

Two men forced their way inside after kicking the magnetic lock — one grabbed a member of staff by the neck and demanded cash.

But the duo, who were white and had scarves covering their faces, failed to get their hands on any money and fled empty-handed. No-one was injured, but staff were badly shaken. Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Det Con Sarah Bull, from Oldham CID, said: “The staff were understandably shocked to be confronted by two men carrying hammers, even more so because the doors were locked and considerable force was used to prise the doors open.”

Anyone with information should call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8955 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
