The Christie at Oldham Appeal has received a £10,649 boost.

The money, raised at a spectacular Bollywood Dreams black tie ball earlier this year, was presented to The Christie chief executive Caroline Shaw at the Christie radiotherapy centre, being built at the Royal Oldham Hospital site.

Hosts Andrea Mills and Sukhi Singh, from Saddleworth, formed The MillSingh Foundation to raise funds for local charities to benefit local people.

The glittering Indian extravaganza to support The Christie’s new £17 million radiotherapy centre, was the first event to be organised by the Foundation.

The Oldham development is the first in a unique network of Christie radiotherapy centres where local patients can access first-class radiotherapy treatments from Christie experts, but much closer to home.

Caroline Shaw said; “I am so grateful to Andrea and Sukhi for all their hard work in organising what was a truly spectacular event. I would like to say a big thank you to them and everyone who supported Bollywood Dreams — the money raised brings us a huge step closer to reaching our appeal target in Oldham.”

More than 20 companies from around Oldham and beyond signed up to support Bollywood Dreams, which was held at the White Hart, Lydgate, in July.

Guests were treated to a champagne reception and six-course Indian banquet before being entertained by breathtaking professional dancers, who performed to songs from the multi-award winning film “Slumdog Millionaire”.

Sukhi said; “It was a fantastic evening and we were overwhelmed by the tremendous support from local businesses and the very kind people of this area, who sponsored it and attended on the night.”

Andrea Mills added; “After six months’ planning we were delighted that the evening was such a success, raising 10 per cent of the appeal total.”
