You can’t go wrong by doing write

BUDDING poets, novelists, playwrights and biographers can get their creative juices flowing in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
The Lyceum Writers was founded more than 20 years ago and meets at Oldham Life Long Learning Centre, Union Street.
The group gets together every Thursday (1-3pm) and member Mary Howard said: “We really do welcome new members — it doesn’t matter if they are experienced writers or not.
“We give a lot of gentle encouragement and because of that, people who have never written before have entered outside competitions and won.”
The group originally met in the Lyceum before moving to its present home. Each week a different member takes the chair and as well as discussing each others’ work, there are plenty of ideas to encourage people to write.
Each year the group produces a book of its work as well as holding a competition. Members who have also had their work published include David Ryder who had a one-minute play performed in the UK and New York.
“It’s an exceptionally friendly group,” added Mary. “There’s a great deal of knowledge there, a great deal of humour and a great deal of laughter. The big thing about it is it does encourage writing.”
