ROBBERS armed with a baseball bat and a metal bar escaped with a large amount of money from a cash van.
The two men threatened the driver who was making a delivery to Sainsbury’s petrol station in Union Street shortly after noon yesterday.
They escaped in a Toyota Rav4 before switching getaway cars in Brookfield Street, close to the entrance of Alexandra Retail Park.
Police are keen to trace this vehicle which is believed to be an old-style Audi A4, possibly silver.
No-one was injured, but Det Cons Richard Sample said: “The people responsible have stolen a large amount of cash and have not given a second thought to the innocent victims or the public.
“If anyone saw them switch cars or witnessed what happened I want to hear from you.
“These men may not be able to resist boasting about what they have done, and may even try to flash some of their ill gotten gains, so I would urge anyone with any information about who might be responsible to call me immediately.”
People with information is should call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
