Fire crews give sick colleagues a big lift

A SPLASH hit . . . the car wash at Oldham fire station
FIRE-fighters cleaned up a staggering £2,914 in aid of injured colleagues.
Crews from Oldham and Chadderton got up to their elbows in soapy suds when they spruced up dirty cars to raise funds for the Fire-Fighters Charity.
They were among thousands of firemen and woman across the country who did a roaring trade on National Car Wash Day.
Oldham station, in Lees Road, made £1,814 while colleagues at Chadderton station, in Broadway, collected £1,100.
Both were open 10am-4pm — cleaning more than 450 cars between them — and Oldham Watch Commander Mark Williams said: “Very well done to the people of Oldham! There was a steady stream of vehicles on Lees Road all the way through and we had some very generous donations. It was a very good result, one of the best in the country.”
The Fire-Fighters Charity offers pioneering treatment and support to crews injured while protecting the public.
It receives no Government funding and aims to raise more than £300,000 from two national car wash days this year.
Crew Commander Tony Morgan, from Chadderton, said: “We had a great response and it is probably one of the best we have done in Chadderton. We were really busy all day and everyone was generous.”
