WINTER hats and headgear was the topic of the day for students taking part in the first of a series of millinery courses.
Entitled autumn felts, tutor Sharon Bainbridge, who is a Leeds University lecturer, first led students through the vast array of felt products available for winter millinery.
The group then explored ideas and techniques involved in making magnificent creations of their own before getting some hands-on experience.
A series of day-long courses will be held at David Parkin Fabrics, in Derker, over the forthcoming weeks, focusing on all manner of materials and styles, from bowlers to berets, fascinators and feathers.
Company owner David Parkin said: “We are the biggest supplier of fabrics, feathers and accessories in the UK with over 3,500 items to choose from.
“We were getting so many requests from people wanting to do courses that we set them up.
“It’s the first time we’ve done something like this, there aren’t many hat-making courses in the country.
“There is a demand for this, our three-day course is fully booked.
“Alternatively, people might have to go to London to complete a course.”
