Your Chronicle — backing the £100,000 Christie Oldham Appeal

A Moorside salon turned out a bevy of beauties in the name of charity.

Amanda McCrirrick donated a day’s takings to the Christie’s at Oldham Campaign from her tanning and beauty salon, Caribbean Corner, and her Lads and Lasses unisex hair salon, both in Ripponden Road.

The event, which marked the relaunch of the shops after refurbishment, netted £500 for the appeal.

Amanda explained: “It was a good day. People specifically booked treatments because they knew their money was going to the appeal. We held a raffle and customers made contributions.”

Amanda’s decided to support the appeal because she has family and friends who are currently undergoing or who have had treatment for cancer, but also because she runs a tanning salon.

She said: “I have done my research and I firmly believe that responsible use of sunbeds gives people the vitamin D they don’t always get from daylight, and boosts the immune system.

“I totally denounce sunbed misuse, or their use by young people, but I do believe their use in a controlled manner for the right reasons isn’t unhealthy.”

Amanda added: “I have had friends who have died from cancer and the Christie appeal is close to my heart.

“Having the charity day was my way of putting something positive back into the local area.”
