A kitchen company’s roadside advertising has cost it more than £1,000 in court charges.

KWS Kitchens, of Fields New Road, Chadderton, has been prosecuted as part of Oldham Council’s crackdown on illegal roadside billboards.

The company was taken to Oldham Magistrates’ Court for displaying an advertising trailer on land off Broadway, Chadderton.

The trailer breached planning and advertising laws when it was parked on land on Ascroft Street.

The company did not attend but was fined £600 with £450 costs.

Councillor Mark Alcock, Cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “These types of adverts are a distraction to road-users.

“Many residents have complained to us about them. They can be a dangerous obstruction of junctions and are an unfair advantage to companies advertising legitimately.

“The council will use all the powers at its disposal to ensure that this type of illegal advertising does not cause a hazard on our roads.”
