Unpalletable to some, but this is art — or maybe bonfire fuel
Is it a challenging art installation or a load of bonfire wood?
The answer is... definitely the former, possibly the latter.
It is the creation of Craig Need, one of a group of four artists called Chromium Skip, who are inspired by architecture and exhibiting at Gallery Oldham until September 19.
Craig used 80 wooden pallets to create a sculpture reflecting the angular lines of the former St Peter’s Precinct in Oldham, which was torn down to make way for Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre.
The sculpture uses perspective and references to the angular design of the old precinct, as seen in a photograph.
But as the end of the exhibition looms, Craig is left with the problem of disposing of the pallets.
He said: “I was thinking of doing an extra piece of work and then setting them on fire, but that is very, very difficult to get passed, lots of health and safety and so on, and I may have to pay someone to dispose of them.
“But bonfire night is coming up and someone may want to take them off my hands.”
Anyone who can use 80 wooden pallets should call Craig on 07816 932878.
