What really, really annoys me is...

MODERN life can drive you mad and it is the little things that make us crazy, according to a nationwide survey.

Taking the top slot is hoodies, the scowling, surly youths who hang around on street corners.

Second is people driving close behind you, third is people who smell.

The study found that on average, people get annoyed more than three times a day.

But what is it that annoys us most?

Reporter BEATRIZ AYALA took to Oldham Town Centre to find out.

Melissa Young (19), from Derker, said groups of teens on public transport made her mad.

She said: “What annoys me the most is groups of kids aged 14 and 15 on the bus playing loud music on their phones.

“It makes me realise how irritating I was at their age.

“Another thing that annoys me is spitting on the streets, I don’t like it.”

Her pal Jodie Hawkins (21), from Derker, said: “It’s the noise people make when they eat.

“Melissa does it, I tell her off and then she does it even louder.

“I find it really irritating and bad manners.

“The other thing that annoys me is when people butt in to your conversation and talk all over you.”

George Proctor (63), from Springhead, said he can’t stand sales people calling him.

He said: “Cold callers are the thing that annoys me the most.

“They phone up during the day trying to sell me stuff I don’t want.

“I very politely tell them that I am not interested.

“I also don’t like spitting on the street.”

His wife Patricia Proctor said: “For me, it is poor drivers who drive dangerously and are inconsiderate.

“Parking cars on pavements really winds me up.

“It’s really dangerous, especially if you have a pushchair and can’t see clearly.

“That is just thoughtless and inconsiderate.”

Chantelle Berry (16), from New Moston, said: “My pet hate is noisy eaters, people who chew like cows.

“It’s disgusting and rude.”

Matthew Double Day (17), from Mossley, said: “It’s bad drivers for me, especially when I do hill starts, roll back a bit and they are right there.

“I’m learning how to drive and am quite nervous but they just get bumper to bumper.”

Donna Borland (37), from Clarksfield, said litter louts and lazy dog owners made it to the top of her list.

She said: “I can’t stand people dropping litter especially when there are so many litter bins about.

“It makes the place look really messy.

“Also, dog mess on the floor.

“I’m a dog owner and I always clean up after my dog, but owners who don’t are just being lazy.

“They should be picking it up because it’s dangerous if children are about.”

Kevin Joyce (70), from Chadderton, said boy racers tearing around Oldham streets really got him angry.

He said: “Young people who are reckless drivers annoy me.

“One car on my avenue was hit this morning and they just sped off.

“The other thing that annoys me is youngsters who can’t handle their ale, but they have been around for ever.”

Zoe Thomas (31), from Failsworth, said traffic wardens made it to the top of her list, despite them only reaching 84th position in the national survey.

She said: “It’s traffic wardens, all of them. They give out tickets for spending two minutes too long in a space and there is no discretion.

“Other things that bother me are bad drivers, especially those who drive in the wrong lane around roundabouts, and public transport that is late.

“I think I get annoyed more than three times a day.”
