Car park attendant loved working at club

ONE of Oldham Athletic’s longest serving car park attendants has died, aged 81.

Harry Fullalove, from Farrowdale Avenue, Shaw, was known to many who parked on the car park at Boundary Park where he worked for 45 years.

The grandfather-of-five died at the Royal Oldham Hospital on Monday following an illness.

Born and bred in Chadderton, Mr Fullalove worked as a butcher and civil servant during the week, and worked evenings and weekends at Latics.

He started at Latics in 1964 and, save for a short spell away while looking after his terminally ill wife Margaret, who died 10 years ago, had been there every season since.

For the past 15 years, he looked after the directors’ car park in Furtherwood Road and was not afraid to give his view of the likely outcome of games to managers, chairmen and officials.

Despite recent ill health, the Latics fan managed to continue with his car parking duties and was present for the last home game of the season some weeks before his death.

His son, Steve Fullalove, said: “His passion was Latics and he watched every game, witnessing many of the lows and highs of the club over the last half century.

“Despite being in hospital with pneumonia the week before the team’s last home game in May, he drove himself to that game as he felt better sitting at the club than being stuck at home.

“He always supported the club and made me go to the games as well.

“He was a hard-working man who would sit out in all weathers at Latics for the love of the job and the club.

“He loved the company of the people he saw there every week and was very well known.”

The club’s chief executive, Alan Hardy, said: “Mr Fullalove loved working for Latics. He was always polite, greeted people with a smile and was willing to have a chat with people.

“It’s a great loss to Oldham Athletic.”
