STARS OF THE SHOW . . . Jack Gartside and Amy Rogers meet “Strictly Come Dancing” professionals Lilia Kopylova and Darren Bennet
A TALENTED pair of tango dancers have wowed the stars of “Strictly Come Dancing” after showing off their skills on the “Paul O’Grady Show”.
Young Jack Gartside (nine) and partner Amy Rogers (eight) were picked to dance a tango on Channel 4’s teatime show on Monday.
Not only was presenter Paul O’Grady blown away by their talent, but professional dancers Darren Bennet and Lilia Kopylova, also guests on the show, were left doubly impressed.
Jack, who attends St Mary’s School, Greenfield, and Amy, a pupil at Buckstones Primary School, Shaw, both started five years ago and regularly attend Trujons Dance Studio in Royton.
Proud dad Michael Gartside (41), from Moorside, said: “Researchers from the show were looking for a juvenile pairing to dance a tango on the show.
“They came to the dance studio two weekends ago to film the youngsters, and picked Jack and Amy.
“They said they were a good couple and were very confident speakers.”
Both sets of parents were invited along to the filming of the television show.
Mr Gartside said: “It was amazing watching them, very emotional and it was a very proud moment for me.
“They were both so excited on the day, and everyone at the studio commented on how good they were.
“Jack loved being on the show. I’m not sure whether he wants to be a dancer when he is older as he also loves football and is goalkeeper for the Oldham Athletic Under 9s.”
Amy’s mum Janey Rogers, from Shaw, said: “She loved performing on the show as well as meeting Darren and Lilia.
“She loves “Strictly Come Dancing” and has met Flavia Cacace and Vincent Simone at a dance demonstration.”
