BRAVE . . . Antony Bott
A WORRIED mum has made an emotional support appeal for a boy battling leukaemia.
Poorly North Chadderton School pupil Antony Bott (12) was diagnosed with the illness this summer.
The brave youngster is undergoing treatment for the condition, and friends and family have rallied round to raise money to help him through the ordeal.
Elaine Booth is running a Hallowe’en fund-raising event tomorrow evening to boost the fund.
But she is worried it will be a flop because she still has 200 tickets unsold.
The Failsworth mother wants to use the proceeds to support Antony’s family, after her own family went through a similar worry.
Her four-year-old son, Adam, was born with a tumour the size of a squash ball on his liver.
He was due to have surgery to remove it when he was five months old, but shortly before the operation, surgeons were amazed to find it had disintegrated.
Elaine recalled: “Adam’s was a rare condition — the doctors don’t know why the tumour disappeared.
“It was a dreadful time, and having been through it I know what Antony’s family are going through.
“It was like a big black cloud constantly hanging over our heads.
“I wanted to do something to help them a little.”
Since Adam’s recovery, Elaine has organised a number of successful fund-raising events for Pendlebury Children’s Hospital to thank staff for caring for Adam.
Anyone who wants to support tomorrow’s event can get tickets from Elaine on 0161-682 8220.
Alternatively, buy them at the door at Kehoes nightclub, Oldham Road, Failsworth.
They cost £3 each, and includes a potato pie supper, DJ and party games.
