Come to Saddleworth, you’ll never be bored!

Saddleworth people showed what they do in their spare time with a major exhibition which mirrored the variety of voluntary organisations in the district.
More than 60 groups took part in the Voluntary Showcase organised by Saddleworth Parish Council.
A steady stream of visitors turned up at the Civic Hall to view exhibition stalls by community associations, local bands and arts, sports and health groups. And many signed up for some interesting spare time activity.
Saddleworth Naturalists led two short rambles on Saturday and Sunday and there were reiki sessions thoughout Saturday and yoga taster sessions on Sunday.
The chairman of the parish council, Councillor Pat Lord and the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar officially opened the event. This was followed by entertainment with St Anne’s School Choir, Grasscroft, and children’s group Mancunian Way.
On Saturday, there was entertainment from Saddleworth School, Dobcross Youth Band, Saddleworth Players and Jonty Noir.
Sunday’s entertainment was provided by Oldham Royelles Dance Troupe, Saddleworth Musical Society, Katana Ju Jitsu Club and Saddleworth Male Voice Choir.
Local pianist Victor Khadem also played at various times during the event.
A range of crafts and skills were demonstrated including painting, quilting, wine-making and flying model aircraft.
