Hannah’s a high-flying cadet

CADET Corporal Hannah Heywood-Taala is celebrating after successfully completing an Air Cadet gliding scholarship.

The 17-year-old of 2200 (Oldham) Squadron Air Training Corps attended a gruelling training course at the Volunteer Gliding Squadron at Salmesbury, near Preston.

She said: “The course was intensive but really exciting. I hope to go on to complete a Flying Scholarship in the near future.”

Flight Lt Mike Holroyd, officer commanding 2200 Squadron added:

“Flying and gliding are integral parts of cadet life and are the most popular activities in the Air Training Corps. Hannah deserves this success.”

Hannah, of Rochdale, attends Bury College, where she is studying A levels in sociology, psychology and English Language as well as undertaking a BTech certificate in music.

She hopes to join the Royal Air Force as a weapons systems officer.

The squadron meets at Wellyhole Street, Lees, on Monday and Wednesday evenings between 7pm-9.30 pm and welcomes new cadets between the ages of 13 and 16. Adult volunteers are also welcome.

Activities include flying and gliding, target shooting, sports, water activities (including canoeing, sailing and power boating), adventure training, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, first aid training, annual camps in the UK and overseas and much more.
