Hammer attack in teen riot

A 12-year-old was attacked with a hammer during a mass riot involving more than 50 teenagers in Chadderton.
It is believed the disturbance was the result of a dispute between two rival groups from the Chadderton and Limeside areas.
Police were called to Butler Green at around 9.30pm on Sunday evening following reports of 'serious anti-social behaviour' in which a school boy, aged 12, was hit with a hammer. The extent of his injuries are not known.
According to officers, large groups of youths have since been causing trouble at Hollinwood Metrolink stop and police and Travel Safe staff have been there each night to separate them and move them on their way.
On Wednesday night two Travel Safe staff were attacked by around 40 teenagers - thought to be aged 12 to 16 - throwing stones.
The incident was caught on CCTV and police are now trying to identify those involved.
GMP Chadderton posted about the incident on Facebook.
"A large scale disturbance took place around 9.30pm on Sunday night in Butler Green, Chadderton," the post read.
