UNEMPLOYMENT for Oldham's 18-24-year-olds has continued to fall

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show 935 18 to 24-year-olds are claiming for Universal Credit and overall there are 4,200 claiming.

The figures show a 12 per cent fall, 125 people, in 18 to 24-year-olds and a 1 per cent fall, 50 people, overall looking work from this time last year.

People from the borough currently looking for work will find a host of opportunities with Guidant Group (formerly Blue Arrow), Mantra/Xpress Solutions and job fair events at Manchester Fort and Get Oldham Working coming up on the horizon.

The Universal Jobmatch also has 1,423 jobs posted within the last 30 days and Direct Gov has 166 apprenticeship vacancies, all within a five mile radius of Oldham.

Vivian Robinson, pPartnership manager for Tameside and Oldham, said: "It's looking good for Oldham, we're doing a lot of work with Blue arrow who recruit for warehouse opportunities.

"Guidant Group is recruiting for warehouse operatives for Shop Direct & Yodel, there are an unlimited amount of positions available.

"Throughout the summer they will increase their work-force by 100. We work closely with them and will be supporting this recruitment.

"Mantra/Xpress Solutions have warehouse vacancies in Failsworth, the hours of work are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

"There is Heads Recruitment interview at Oldham Jobcentre every Wednesday for various positions."

She said: "A Jobs Fair will be held at the Manchester Fort on August 23 specifically for the retail centre and Jobcentre Plus are working with Get Oldham Working to hold a Jobs Fair at the Queen Elizabeth hall on Spetember 21.

"Foresight Recruitment have both warehouse roles and inbound contact centre roles available. Universal Jobmatch has 1423 jobs posted within the last 30 days, of a 5 mile radius of Oldham.

"166 Apprenticeship vacancies found on Direct Gov within a 5 mile radius of Oldham out of which 61 are advanced and one is higher."

In the North West the number of people in work is at a record high of 3.46million, 74.4per cent, with unemployment lower than the national rate of 4.4per cent at 4.1 per cent.

Nationally the employment rate is at a record high of 75.1 per cent with 32.07 million people in work, while unemployment is down 57,000 on the quarter and is at lowest rate since 1975 and there are now 247,000 more people in work since January.
