A YOUNG boy suffered a broken arm and leg when he fell from a house on a building development which he had broken into with a gang of youths.

The gang, around 10-15 strong, broke through the perimeter fencing of the Keepmoat Housing development on Whitebank Road, Limeside, and began showering the security guard with stones, who was injured as a result.

The security guard was instructed to call the police and stay away from the intruders who continued to rampage through the Limehurst Village development.

Shortly after a 12-year-old boy, who had entered one of the buildings, fell around 20ft from an attic window to the ground below.

Emergency services were called again and once they had left the site it is reported a larger group of 20-30 individuals gathered outside the perimeter fence, threatening the security guard and causing him to fear for his safety.

A spokesperson for Keepmoat said: "The incident was reported to the police - who are treating this as assault.

"We sincerely hope the young person who was injured on site has a full recovery and now understands the dangers of construction sites and why we employ a security company to protect local residents."

"The safety of our staff and local residents is absolutely paramount and any threats to that safety will be taken incredibly seriously."

Following Sunday's incident GMP Failsworth and Hollinwood, who described the injuries to the boy as 'nasty' advised parents to warn their children of the dangers of entering and playing on building sites.

Posting on Facebook on Monday they said: "An incident was reported to police on Sunday afternoon of children causing damage to fencing panels on the new Keepmoat Housing development on Whitebank Road, Limeside. This then developed into the same children throwing stones at the security guard when challenged.

"The children then entered the site. One 12-year-old child entered one of the buildings under construction. Unfortunately he fell out of the attic window, falling around 20ft landing on the ground below. He sustained nasty breaks to his arm and leg.

"Building sites are dangerous places to play. Parents are advised to warn their children of the dangers and consequences of entering and playing on such sites."

Just hours after their initial warning GMP Failsworth and Hollinwood posted again about another incident at the site where a security guard was pelted with stones by youths.

They said: "Seems the message is not getting through. Just been called to Whitebank Road building site. older youths this time throwing stones at the security guards."
