A RAINBOW of colours filled the atmosphere at last year's Colour Blast in aid of Dr Kershaw's Hospice
OLDHAMERS are urged to clothe themselves in colour as a Dr Kershaw's Hospice fundraiser returns for 2017.
The Royton-based hospice called on residents to sign up for the "biggest and best" Colour Blast in aid of end-of-life care provision across Oldham and surrounding districts.
Dr Kershaw's has once again teamed up with Revolution 96.2 radio for the colour-filled sponsored run around Alexandra Park.
Income generation manager Lisa Pearson said: "The Dr Kershaw's Colour Blast was first launched in 2015 and this year promises to be the biggest and best yet.
"The event is great fun for the whole family, even the four-legged members.
"The Colour Blast involves walking, running or skipping around the park while being blasted with brightly-coloured corn starch.
"We have lots of stalls and attractions, live music and entertainment so it really is a great day out for all the family."
The Colour Blast is open to all ages and is created by a rainbow explosion of non-toxic powder that is safe for children and pets.
The powder washes out of clothes and from skin and when it rains, any left in the park will run away with the rainwater.
Provision
Held in September each year, the event is organised to raise money for the provision of palliative care for adults with non-curable, life-limiting illnesses.
Last year thousands of people took part in the event, raising £10,000 for the Royton hospice.
Participants receive an event pack containing a T-shirt and packet full of coloured powder to cover themselves, friends and family with.
Runners are advised to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes and hats are recommended to stop powdered paint getting in their hair.
This year's event, described by the hospice as "the most colourful event of the year", takes place on Sunday, September 24 between 1 and 3pm.
All sponsorship money should be passed over to Dr Kershaw's by November 1.
Tickets cost £15 for over 16s and £8 for children aged 0 to 16.
Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult who is registered for the event.
Family tickets are also available for £42.
