A DISPLAY of classic and vintage cars attracted dozens of people to Oldham town centre at the weekend.

The 10th annual Oldham Classic Car Show drew in the crowds, giving people the chance to see Parliament Square transformed with cars from bygone days on Sunday.

An Edsel, Cadillac and Triumph TR4 were part of the line-up for motor enthusiasts while children were entertained with the likes of Lightning McQueen and a huge Scalextric track.

About 50 vintage cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles were on show at the event, organised by Tame Valley Vintage and Classic Car Club with support from Oldham Town Centre Partnership.

Karen Gerrard, who was with her partner, from Heywood, said: "We love classic cars. My partner likes British sports cars such as MGs and Triumphs - he really liked the TR4 today.

"My love is 50s American cars. The Cadillac, Buick and Edsel were to die for.

"We went along because we wanted somewhere local to go that wasn't too costly and that we would both enjoy.

"We don't find many activities that we both like, so it was ideal.

"It was quite a small show, but we expected that so we weren't disappointed."

Motorheads were able to view scores of vehicles including an Edsel Ranger 100 Coupe, 1948 Leyland PS1 Tiger bus and Buick Invicta at the event.

Disney Pixar's Cars movie favourites, Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, were parked in front of the Old Town Hall, while comedy Traffic Wardens were on hand to give visitors some afternoon laughs.

Visitors and participating groups and clubs took to social media to share their experiences of the day.

Stonerig Raceway, who set up the Scalextric track, said on Twitter: "Fantastic day at Oldham classic car show."

Caroline Hicklin on Facebook said: "We have just returned from the classic car show and it didn't disappoint.

"There was something for everyone, including the kids. Absolutely brilliant."

Visitors were also treated to a family dance show, Campervan of Love, which centred around a pink 1970s VW campervan.

Acting duo Pete Shenton and Tom Roden captured the crowds with their dance theatre routine based on the myth of Cupid and Psyche.

Lisa Dissington, from Chadderton, who was with partner Dennis Keogh, said: "It was our first time at the show. It was a really good event."
