Rail woes as strike continues

DELAYS on the railways were set to continue today as Northern workers continued their three-day strike.
The train operator urged passengers to consider whether their rail journeys were "necessary" over the weekend.
Several trains were cancelled due to industrial action which began on Saturday, or due to members of the train crew being "unavailable."
Northern kept passengers updated via social media while the strike was ongoing over a dispute regarding driver-only operated trains.
Regional director at Northern, Sharon Keith, said on Saturday: "We want to remind customers that we will continue to operate a very limited service.
"We ask customers to please give serious consideration to alternative transport arrangements."
On Saturday, some trains were cancelled on the day, including one Leeds to Sheffield service, a Huddersfield to Leeds train, and a Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North service among others.
Northern said it expected to run, on average, more than 40 per cent of its normal timetable across the three days and were supplementing this with rail replacement buses.
Anyone travelling is urged to visit www.northernrailway.co.uk/industrialaction to check replacement timetables and find up-to-date information.
