Annual Classic Car Show
VINTAGE and classic cars will be revving the engines of Oldhamers as the borough's annual car show pulls into town this weekend.
The free event, organised by Tame Valley Vintage and Classic Car Club with support from Oldham Town Centre Partnership, returns on Sunday
Visitors will be able to view around 50 vintage cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles in Parliament Square from 10.30am until 3.30pm.
Petrol heads will be able to spot American classics, luxury vehicles and pre-war tourers with owners on hand to give a history of their vehicle.
Stars of Disney Pixar's "Cars" films, Lightening McQueen and Tow Mater will also entertain young car enthusiasts as replica character cars travel all the way from Radiator Springs park up in the town centre.
Entertainment will also come in the form of The Campervan of Love dance show who will perform their mischievous dance moves while comedy Traffic Wardens roam around the town centre to give shoppers some afternoon laughs.
Anyone who fancies themselves as a champion racer can also take on friends and family at the huge Scalextric track, provided by Stonerig Raceway.
Councillor Jean Stretton, Leader of Oldham Council, said: "This event is a great opportunity for families and motoring enthusiasts to visit the town centre and see their favourite cars from days gone by.
"The event continues to grow every year and it's now a fixture that I'm sure everyone looks forward to.
"Visitors will be able to enjoy the attractions and shops our town centre has to offer while they view the cars - including the stunning Old Town Hall development, Independent Quarter, Tommyfield Market Hall and Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre"
Vehicles will be judged during the show under 10 different categories - with one owner being presented with the "Car of the Show" title.
Entry to the show is free and anyone wishing to showcase their car can email towncentreteam@oldham.gov.uk or call 0161 770 4516.
More information can be found online at http://www.visitoldham.com.
The annual car show will be followed by town centre Flower Festival on Saturday, July 15, 11am until 4pm.
Residents can go blooming wild and meet the Very Hungry Caterpillar and watch flower demonstrations with TV's star gardener Katie Rushworth.
Gallery Oldham will also host its Bee Day on July 15 with visitors given the chance to meet resident bees, taste their delicious honey, watch the popular film Bee Movie (U) and find out more from the beekeeping experts.
