THERE was fun and events for all ages in Shaw at the weekend.

Hundreds of people descended on Market Street to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the performances during the Shaw and Crompton Parish Council Family Weekend.

The event, which ran from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, featured an abundance of free entertainment to mark the parish council's 30th anniversary.

There was fairground entertainment and stalls, inflatable castles and slides and a variety of acts performing.

One ride, Rocking the Nation, took people to new heights as it spun them round, and the Waze Swinger Spin and Twister rides were also popular.

Dinosaurs took to the streets to walk among festivalgoers and petrol heads saw their needs fulfilled as well with an abundance of vintage and classic cars on show on Sunday.

Admirers got to see the vehicles in action as they were taken on a drive around Shaw and Crompton for which Councillor Howard Sykes had previously said: "If you see the 'convoy' give them a wave or a toot on your horn, which I am sure they will appreciate."

One car to stand out was a stunning blue AC Cobra sports car convertible - it looked like something James Bond would drive.

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team members were on hand to meet and greet visitors on Saturday and they thanked the 'new friends' they made.

While the weather had fallen short of the high temperatures seen at the start of the previous week, those who attended didn't seem to mind as they enjoyed celebrating the area they live in as a community.
