Fun day memorial for much-loved Tyrese

A MEMORIAL fun day is being organised in aid of two charities as a family marks one year since the death of their "beautiful" 12-year-old boy.

Tyrese Glasgow, from Mossley, was found tragically hanged in his bedroom on June 15, last year after he went back to collect his school books.

Following an inquest into his death, Coroner Anna Morris recorded a narrative verdict and said "there was no evidence Tyrese intended to take his own life."

Close friends and family of Tyrese's mother Katy Cross have rallied round to host fundraiser "Time for TY" in memory of the "fun, bubbly, lovable" boy.

An open invitation has been sent out to residents who want to join them at Saddleworth Rugby Club from 2.30pm on June 18.

Tyrese's godmother Simone Osborne said: "It is coming up to the first year anniversary of Tyrese passing away.

"We want to give something back to the community to say thank you for all the support we have had over the past year."

She added: "There has been a lot of negative press after his inquest so we wanted to keep his memory alive by doing something fun and raise money for charity in his name.

"He was a very fun, bubbly, lovable young body, loved by everyone. Every time he smiled he touched people's hearts."

The Saddleworth School pupil was previously described by teacher Mrs Blezard-Downs as "a wonderful boy" who was "a friend to everyone."

Mum Katy said: "A massive big thank you to all my friends and family - especially Simone and Teri-Ann Duckworth for arranging a perfect charity fun day to celebrate the life of my special beautiful boy Tyrese, who's dearly missed every day by us all."

The fundraiser in his name will raise money for both the Stand Together fund for victims of the Manchester bomb attack on May 22, and national mental health charity Healthy Minds.

Simone, a mental health nurse, said: "Tyrese had a lot of loving people around him and his mum said she can't imagine young people out there without family and friends to support them so she wanted to raise money for Healthy Minds."

X-Factor's Christian Burrows, whose brother died of cot death at just three-months-old, will sing live on the day. Oldham Fire Service will also attend the event with one of their engines.

A bouncy castle, auction food, stalls, tombola and ice cream van are also confirmed. Co-organiser Terri Ann Duckworth said: "Time for TY is taking place in memory of a beautiful little boy Tyrese. Come and join in the fun just like he would."
