Teenager assaulted by gang

A TEENAGER was dragged off his bike and assaulted by a gang of youths during a mugging.
The 14-year-old victim was riding his bike along the bridle path off St John Street, Lees, on Saturday shortly before 5pm when he was approached by four youths.
They pulled him off his bike and began to assault him before demanding he hand over his mobile phone, money and the bike he was riding. However, the victim was able to stand up to the gang and managed to escape without handing over his possessions.
He suffered minor injuries during the assault but is now believed to be safe and well.
A police spokesman said: "Shortly before 5pm on June 3 police were called to reports of an attempted robbery on St John's Street.
"The boy was on his bike when four youths pulled him off it and assaulted him.
"They tried to take his mobile phone, money and bike. The boy managed to escape and didn't require hospital treatment.
"It looks like he is now safe and well."
