JOBSEEKERS were given advice, support and the chance to hear about more than 500 job-related opportunities at the annual Get Oldham Working Jobs (GOW) fair.

Members of the GOW team spoke to hundreds of residents from across the borough about opportunities available during the fair at Oldham Library and Lifelong Learning Centre.

A variety of firms, companies and authorities set up their stalls at the free event, including Greater Manchester Police, Housing Units, P&R, Wilmott Dixon, Community Voice, Oldham College, OTC, Work Company, Homecare Support, North West Ambulance, First Choice Homes and Allied Scaffolding.

Anyone who was unable to attend on the day can contact the GOW team on the first floor of Metropolitan House, Hobson Street, Oldham, OL1 1TT, across the road from the Job Centre Plus.

The new base is operating an open-door policy, so residents of working age can go along, without an appointment, and speak to a careers adviser, weekdays from 9am to 4pm.

The team has supported the creation of 6,000 employment opportunities in less than three years and over the next five years GOW is looking to engage with 6,000 residents and fill 5,000 work-related opportunities.
