AN OLDHAM Athletic director will step into his walking boots on a 57-mile trek to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
Latics director Simon Brooke will join Sky Sports legend Jeff Stelling on his March for Men next month as he treks from Oldham to Blackpool for the charity.
With an aim to raise more than £600, Simon's two-day marathon, starting tomorrow, will see him walk from Boundary Park to Accrington Stanley's Crown Ground tomorrow. And on Saturday he will head for Blackpool's Bloomfield Road from Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park home.
During his treks, Simon will raise the profile of the cause, with prostate cancer being the most common cancer in men, and hope to pull in more donations from well-wishers along the way.
He said: "Several colleagues of mine have been through it and this, combined with the amazing walk that Jeff is doing again, gave me the perfect opportunity to support such a worth charity.
"I watched Jeff Stelling's progress on the walk last year and was definitely signing up this year if the opportunity presented itself.
"Jeff is a big hero of mine as the presenter of Soccer Saturday, so I'm pleased to have the opportunity to join him for a small part of the challenge."
Simon added: "Training is going well. I love walking and usually walk about 30 to 35 miles a week, so just a little step up in training. It's helped as I make my way back from knee injury I suffered in January."
As well as Simon, Jeff will also be joined by Oldham rugby legend Kevin Sinfield when he walks through the borough during March for Men.
The marathon will see Jeff complete 15 walking marathons in 15 days as he aims to raise £500,000. His journey starts from the South West at Exeter City FC and will finish in the North East at Newcastle United FC, both grounds called St James's Park.
Clocking up 400 miles, he will visit 40 football clubs along the way.
