Hospice thankful for support it receives

OLDHAM'S only hospice praised residents for their support as they give their time and gifts for free.

Dr Kershaw's Hospice in Royton benefits from the dedication of more than 350 local volunteers.

Anyone who is able to offer their time and talents to help with patients, fundraising, gardening, or any number of other tasks which keep the hospice running, are urged to get in touch.

Volunteer manager Vicky Richardson said: "We are lucky to have more than 350 local people who give their time to support Dr Kershaw's and quite simply, we couldn't do it without them.

"For every bag of donations sorted, each customer warmly welcomed, each cup of tea brewed, every smile raised, each carer comforted and every member of staff supported, we would like to say a huge thank you from us all."

Vicky stressed that volunteers at "at the heart" of all the hospice does and really do make a difference to the lives of patients and their families.

She added: "We are always looking for more volunteers to support our work.

"If you have got green fingers and could spare a few hours in our hospice gardens, or might be interested in helping run our new tea bar for patients and their families, we would love to hear from you."
