FLASHBACK to last year's successful event
JOBSEEKERS can find a new career at the 2017 Get Oldham Working (GOW) Jobs Fair on Thursday.
There will be more than 500 job related opportunities on show at the fair, which takes place from 10am until 2pm at Oldham Library and Lifelong Learning Centre.
Members of the GOW will also be available on the day to advise people about jobs, careers and access to training across a wide range of sectors within the borough.
Helen Lockwood, Executive Director of Economy, Skills and Neighbourhood at Oldham Council, said: "Our Get Oldham Working Jobs Fair is a good opportunity for unemployed and employed residents to come along and get help in their search for new career opportunities.
"So we would encourage people to come down to the library - bring your CV if you have one - as there are hundreds of jobs on offer and you could end up meeting your future employer.
"More than 1,500 residents attended our last jobs fair in September and we hope as many come through the doors this time around."
The free event, at the Greaves Street centre. is open to anyone looking or a job, apprenticeship or work experience and there is no need to book a place.
Among the firms, companies and authorities which will be exhibiting are Greater Manchester Police, Housing Units, P&R, Wilmott Dixon, Community Voice, Oldham College, OTC, Work Company, Homecare Support, North West Ambulance, First Choice Homes and Allied Scaffolding.
There are positions available in the care, construction, metalwork and security industries; office, customer service and administration roles as well as driving and warehouse opportunities, among others.
Parents are also encouraged to bring children along as there will be a bouncy castle and face painting outside for them to enjoy.
Anyone who cannot attend on the day can contact the GOW team on the first floor of Metropolitan House, Hobson Street, Oldham, OL1 1TT - across the road from the Job Centre Plus.
The new base is operating an "open door" policy, which means residents of working age can go along - without an appointment - and speak to a careers advisor, weekdays 9am until 4pm.
The team has supported the creation of 6,000 employment opportunities in less than three years and over the next five years GOW is looking to engage with 6,000 residents and fill 5,000 work-related opportunities.
