THE family of a 12-year-old boy who died last year will rally together for a 10k fundraising run "to keep his bright light shining."

Their participation in the Great Manchester Run on Sunday is in loving memory of "role model pupil" Tyrese Glasgow who died in June, 2016.

Family members will be joined by Mahdlo staff as they undertake the run in the Oldham youth zone's recognisable yellow T-shirts in the hope of raising £2,000.

More than £1,300 has already been donated for the youth club, where Tyrese and his sister Tiah spent many half-term breaks and school holidays.

The Mahdlo team have also worked alongside Tyrese's friends to build a pond at Dovestone Reservoir in his memory. The pond now offers a place for children to play as well as somewhere for residents to remember Tyrese.

In a statement the family said: "On Wednesday, June 15, 2016, the Glasgow families lives were changed forever when Tyrese, aged just 12 years old passed away. During his short life Tyrese brought great happiness to those around him and he was a bright light in the families lives.

"The family took great strength from each other, friends and the community such as the charity Mahdlo, a Youth Zone based in Oldham. Tyrese spent many happy days at Mahdlo, where he would go during half term with his sister Tiah.

"Now family and friends are taking part in the Manchester 10k to raise money for Mahdlo Youth Zone to help keep Tyrese's bright light shining. He loved the outdoors, sports and being active, so the 10k seemed the perfect fit."

Hundreds of children attended the funeral of Year 7 Saddleworth School pupil Tyrese, who died at his home in Manchester Road, Mossley.

In tributes, Tyrese was described as an "exceptionally polite, lively, popular" boy who "had the most infectious smile."

Aunt Jade Glasgow, who will take part in the 10k run, said: "We want to keep Tyrese's memory alive and positive because that is who he was. He was really energetic and wanted to live life to the full."

Jade, from Oldham, will be joined by Tyrese's dad Anthony, step mum Jane as well as several cousins aged 11 to 30 as they walk, jog and run.

CEO of Mahdlo Mike Doran said: "We are really grateful of the support of the family and their friends. Tyrese was a valued and popular member of Mahdlo and the staff, volunteers and young people are touched that they are honouring his memory in this way."
